This villain gives us lots of nice twists, maybe it’s mostly the silver tongue. Anyway I’m guessing that the reason why he’s being selfish is because now with Oats squealing on him he’s being more paranoid.
Spoiler: it takes more than two seconds to alter your DNA. He’ll be in handcuffs long before it takes effect. Unless it’s a drug-like boost, in which case it won’t last and he’ll need to harvest more blood from different clowns, leading to lots of guerilla attacks on students, field agents, office clowns, etc.
Wasn’t expecting him to pull a Bane. Strongman was beaten before, (by a younger Binky) but seems this guy figuring the classic “I bet *I* could use it better than he can!”
Checking the comics referenced in the hover text! I’m still unclear how sleepfighting is an uncopyable mutant power, but summoning a 50-foot balloon golem from nothing is a skill that anyone could theoretically learn.
I mean the skill was just folding the balloons really fast. Summoning them was stated (or speculated at least) to be a tech thing in the talk at the end of chapter 4. Where they were stored before use is anyone’s guess though.

She can build a functioning tank including cannon out of balloons! The fact that she can do it really fast is the *least* superhuman part!
