It never ceases to amaze me that somehow the mayor manages to be a bigger clown than all the actual clowns, and to single handedly make that a massive insult in the one context where it shouldn’t be. I’d say he missed his true calling, but he’d be a disgrace to the Clown Corps.
I so want to dislike Mayor Burke, but I cannot help but find his childlike enthusiasm endearing!
And there still is this nagging feeling in the back of my head, that we do not know everything there is to the ClownCorps! McBells encounter with the ordinary citizenry in the mall really threw me. What, I ask, what, if the Corps actually WAS rotten and the mayor wants to reform it by throwing out the old management? Doesn’t that make him the good guy? (N.B: I do not like this theory, and I think it is highly unprobable, but I can’t help myself there…)
The amount of time we are NOT spending on McBell is making me Very Worried. Has she perhaps been kidnapped by a mime and we are waiting on the rest of the cast to notice she is missing?
Huh, the rich kid has shown very little red flags, he actually seems mostly chill.
Mayor though? He’s a type of clown no clown corps clown can ever be.
He is an advocate of minimalist logos. Pure evil.
Also, “I can’t stand privileged people”. He is so far buried under his own glass house he cannot even see that there is a sky outside of it. Also literally does not care that his father died and even asks for Binky’s autograph about it, and takes the secretary clown as his “bodyguard” on a whim with no warning. He lacks any kind of empathy. I’d say that’s a lot of red flags.
If this was an animated show, you just know all the other clowns would have serious, or at least more “normal”, instrumentation while the Mayor here would be the only one with an actual circus clown music leitmotif.
