I don’t think it’s acknowledged nearly enough how good the art has gotten. The angle and framing of the bottom left panel is really well done, everything looks just a little exaggerated, like we’re viewing it though a different lens to fit everything in frame. It’s subtle but really well executed.
On the other hand, in German folklore before Faust, the Devil is a great big loser who never gets a single soul in a deal – mortals always weasel their way out. He only wins when people break taboos they didn’t even know about and he just carries them right off to Hell without warning.
Y’know, if I had a nickel for every creator who made utterly hysterical, badass, gorgeous stories with clowns being a major aspect, I’d have 2 nickels. It isn’t much, but it’s weird that it happened twice. K I’m gonna go rewatch worthikids’ “The Wire” for the five gazillionth time
Burke’s downfall will be rooted in how he thoroughly he underestimated Dean Squeaky’s cascading acts of rebellion. The devil himself could shake hands with him, and walk away unsure how equal their agreement was.

Squeaky started his darned introduction speech by telling the gist of the firefighter stuff!
