I genuinely did not expect I’d ever be rooting for Platt Jr., but here he is removing himself from a position he was unqualified for, taking Cardigan to see the penguins, and telling Mayor Burke to get a life. Not that I expect Burke to take any positive lessons from this, but you can’t win them all.
The chimp did not choose anything, Platt just single-handedly thought he would “free” him. And, yeah, I think the chimp would have preferred to stay in a cage than to live in Antarctica.
It could certainly be read that way, but I think the more natural reading is the “him” and “he” right next to each other referring to the same person, hence Platt Jr. decided it. The chimp making the decision is certainly the more entertaining option, though.
Alt text:
Reminder: the director of the Clown Corps stole a chimp from the zoo. The chimp looked at him and he was like “yo this guy rules” and decided it was a Free Willy situation
I am still interpreting it that way, on the basis that the syntax is somewhat ambigious and this way makes it more funny.
Also, just look at that smile, and at the glint in his eyes. Zachary is clearly the brains of that operation and he knows it. Or at least he was, until Cardigan came along. But Zachary is still cool with it. This way he gets a ‘Happy Feet’ situation on top of the Free Willy one.
He just spewed some nonsense that sounded smart and poetic but is easy to see through, reminds me of growing up with my brother, that jerkwad could come up with an excuse at the drop of a hat.
You know what, I can ship it. Good for Cardigan, hope she has a happy life.
Schrodinger’s Platt: The state of being simultaneously both the smartest and the dumbest man in the room at the same time.
Truly, he is the Goku of our time.
that is an excellent comparison and it hurts me.

‘Liberated’, alt text. If the chimpanzee decided to willingly join you in escaping the zoo, you did not ‘steal’, you ‘liberated’.
‘Emanchimpated’, if you will.

nah I think I’m gonna believe the alt text rather than you. mainly cuz it’s funnier. and look! he’s smiling!
In real life? You’d be right. In a webcomic about clowns where the alt-text says the chimp “decided it was a Free Willy” situation? You are wrong.
It could certainly be read that way, but I think the more natural reading is the “him” and “he” right next to each other referring to the same person, hence Platt Jr. decided it. The chimp making the decision is certainly the more entertaining option, though.
Mr Mayor, you aren’t really about to listen to that idiot, are you?
zachary will be fine, they just need to put him in a puffy jacket & pants like the rest of them. maybe also get him a beard. he’ll look really cute!
I’m honestly gonna miss Platt Jr.’s antics. Really funny character. I hope Cardigan has a good time : )
Hate to say it but Platt Jr. can actually make a beard work. Damn him and his roguish good looks!
Bonobo. If that primate has been that cool with everything for this long, it’s a bonobo, NOT a chimpanzee.
It would be tearing faces off by now if it was a chimp.
I meant this to be a main comment, not a reply!
I dunno, some of them clowns seem to make pretty fine knights.

I have to admit, I initially interpreted that as the chimp thinking that Platt ruled.
I am still interpreting it that way, on the basis that the syntax is somewhat ambigious and this way makes it more funny.

I’ll remind you that until this very phone call, Platt was the Director of the Clown Corps.
..I think this ensures that Burke doesn’t just disband the corps. After all, that’d be like admitting he made a mistake now.
warhammer 40k logic out of this guy
That chimp is going to kill that idiot man.
Nah, that chimp knows that when Platt Jr. dies it’s going to be the funniest thing in the world, so he’s just waiting for the punchline.
That chimp is playing the LONG game.
Gotta be a bonobo.
Oh no, that’s dangerous advice to give to a villain!
He just spewed some nonsense that sounded smart and poetic but is easy to see through, reminds me of growing up with my brother, that jerkwad could come up with an excuse at the drop of a hat.
I hope Zachary gets a cute little monkey jacket for Antarctica
Little wool longjohns with a buttflap, and a baffle down parka to go with it.
i ship them, i hope they live happily in the arctic (and that their chimp stays warm)
Someone remind me who Cardigan was?
She was the clown assigned to guard Platt Jr. at the auction. Chapter 6 Page 80 is a good start to see her active role there.
