Mmm… still not sure McBell’s on the moral highground here. She still aided her old buddies in knocking over this place… albeit in the most minimalist way possible. And you just know dear Dot is gonna overhear this and tattle.

Is stealing from these people in particular really immoral?

Only in that stealing, as a broad concept, is. Otherwise no, fuck ’em.

Pretty much this. No matter how we feel about this, McBell’s probably still gonna have to answer for her part in it all. Bout, especially, I think, will probably confront her at some point because it’s still his job and he’s on his own journey.

Mustard the Clown is part of the Corps, Mary. Do you think she could have gotten you 4 years time served in the Academy if she was just a badgeless freelancing merc? Hate cops all you want, but if they didn’t have an agency over their collective heads, they would just all be individual hired guns.

Unfortunately, that too often just means that their hired guns with an agency to protect them from consequences.

McBell’s whole arc is that the agency has protected her from consequences.

Sure, but the point of the distinction between the clown and the corps is that they don’t need to be cops for people like her to be given probationary positions to help them Stop Fucking Up.

Same as how cops don’t need to exist in their current form for society to function.

Yes they are cops. They’re police special forces, a level above Swat teams. Mustard absolutely does need that much authority to pull strings for Mcbell or for anyone.

Is this the first time we’ve gotten Eliza’s name?

I think they were friends. And that it’s really sad that that’s so rare as to be overshadowed by other squishyfeelings in the modern media environment.

“women being just platonic friends in media is rare” is an extremely interesting take that could only be uttered by people whose exposure to modern media is obscure webcomics

I don’t think it’s that rare, fans just ship whoever and that distorts the data.

Male/female friendships are impeded somewhat by general audiences expecting the most protagonisty dude and lady to hook up when the story’s over, but male/male and female/female friendships are common enough.

I appreciate how hard shes digging her feet in on the clown corp sucking rocks. And I truly love the out and out ‘yeah I did want you back, because I specifically like you’. It’s a very real kinda motive; people can want one thing and still think its a bad idea for the other person.

“Incidentally, I sure hope my mentor isn’t on a dark spiral herself or something. That would really harm my own character development.”

Damn, that last line hit me surprisingly hard, but also maybe in the opposite way McBell is feeling right now? Because obviously things have been going down the drain with the Clown Corp for the past bit and there’s a lot of negativity and corruption and the police violence metaphor only gets more poignant as the story goes on.

But McBell *was* saved. She genuinely did get pulled out of a spiral and opened up as a person.

There are people who care, who are clowns because they love the silliness and the craft and the sheer joy of it. Who want to skate free and invent and make their parents proud and, you know, be an actually non-lethal and deescalatory alternative to the police. The corruption and creeping power grabs spoiling the clown corp doesn’t mean those people wouldn’t build better given even half a chance.

Can’t Dot hear, like, all of this?

They haven’t actually said anything a toddler could interpret clearly as “these bad guys are stealing from my dad’s friends… yet.

Also interesting, turns out the whole “McBell was the brains of the operation” bit they pulled at the trial was… true?

Dot’s *nine*. How young do you think that *is*?

Agreed that McBell being the actual catalyst for their turn to crime is pretty interesting.

Well I keep calling her a toddler so obviously I didn’t think she was 9

Fair. She’s steady on her feet and considers what she speaks, though, which is definitely older than toddler.
(I vaguely remember her saying she’s nine, but even if she’s five or six, that’s still like twice toddler age.)

Talk about a weird time to be questioning one’s own series of choices. I am still hoping for a double cross in this heist as a form of payback from the start of the series.

Also, I wonder which clown is being referred to as the one who saved McBell ?

I took “The clown did.” as more like, the concept broadly. if that’s not the case though, I’d guess Mustard

I am amazed that playing imaginary gameboy is in fact, not something McBell was doing as a joke, but her literal pastime. She must have a hella imagination. I also wonder what game she is playing…

Probably the same one she was playing outside Snowqueen’s office after the PSC brawl.
