Oh shit, is kitty dude innocent?

Does make sense that it’s Doc though, especially with the stuff avout diverting new tech over to Echo.

the cat’s not off the hook. that clown wig is big enough it could still be a cute animal piloting him rattatouie-style

Well, the mole -could- still be angel the cat. Just.. Disguised as doc on this page.

Nah! Too much hassle! Cat’s goota nap! (After all, we’re talking about a mole pretending to be a cat in a human costume…!)
(I’m secretly relieved that Angel is off the hook.)

THE MOLE REVEALED! And here I was saying that Bunsen was the suspicious one.

I still don’t quite understand why he sent Binky and Mustard to the peanut factory, when he could have just…not done that. Sure, it worked well enough as a trap, but you can set up traps in lots of places, and Platt probably wasn’t too thrilled about the risk to his illegal business. Maybe the Shadow Circus was planning to use Binky and Mustard’s deaths to blackmail Platt? Or maybe they were planning to kill Platt all along as a loose end, and wanted to frame the dead Binky and Mustard for it? I guess there are a lot of possibilities.

To answer the peanut question: For a good trap you need a big enough bait. Plus soundproof…

Might’ve been a trap for Oats. She didn’t squeel on the peanut factory, which proves to ringmaster that she’s compromised.

I think they definitely wanted Platt dead, but I don’t think whether or not the clowns died was relevant to the success of that op. They’d have made it work if they’d killed them, but they got everything they wanted out of that fight in the canon version where both of them survived

Well, as Oats said: “It was always going to be a show.”

The Shadow Circuis could also have chosen to steal the gene-blood-needle-thingamabob in a less ostentatious manner, given they knew where it was and there was no way to get to it without tipping their hand about the mole in the science division, but hey, clowns. The Ringmaster probably thought it made for a tantalizing breadcrumb, not go mention they got to shut Platt sr. up in a clown-involved setpiece battle after they had gotten (most of) what they wanted from him.

Bunsen was the traitor all along?? Oh my gosh, Beaker will be heartbroken!

(I hope this wasn’t one of those obvious setups, because I never suspected Bunsen)

    Alt text:

    ========
Or, y’know, if it was given a bit more weight. He pretty much just turns to the camera and goes “Hi, it’s me, the mole.” I dunno, it just seems kind of like a bit of a lame way to reveal who it is.

(Just to clarify — everything above the equals signs is the alt text, everything below is my personal thoughts)

The alt text gives me the sense that we’re reaching the part of the story where the mole is gonna get revealed, regardless of what the protagonists are up to, and there hasn’t really been time to establish what’s-his-face as the mole (or a character who matters) in the last three years.

      The perils of serial storytelling.

Yeah, fair enough. Now that I’m thinking about it, I suppose my problem is more that we don’t really know who Doc is, rather than how exactly it was revealed.

I’d agree with you on that. If we got to see a little bit more of who doc really is and what his motivations are beyond “generic clown scientist #2”, I think it will end up feeling much more accurate and balanced.

I’m devastated (/lh) that it’s Doc, I enamored with this goofball every time he shows up. It’ll be interesting to see how the reveal at large goes though, he’s laid a pretty good cover of “well intentioned scatterbrained genius” that might make them doubt

There’s a “Characters” page over on TV Tropes now. (Caution, may contain spoilers for anyone who isn’t caught up. Though if you’re reading this close to when I posted it, that probably isn’t a problem for you.)

I just remembered why I never suspected Doc till last week: He was also the one who brought this nice Detective Soto into play (chapter-2-page-25). So if he’s the mole, does that mean Soto is an accomplice and part of the Shadow-Circus? (We still don’t know the identity of the tear-shedding, bazooka-wielding Captain, btw…)

I don’t know. I feel like a secret Shadow Corps agent wouldn’t openly declare their disdain for clowns while in their civilian guise. She also shared Ringmaster’s / Gus Gilborn’s real identity with the Corps, which doesn’t seem like it benefited the Circus in any way.

Maybe it’s the opposite? Doc thought that looping Soto in could open up an opportunity of bringing her down as well?

Really do want to hear whatever

Please ignore my last unfinished sentence, and replace “Shadow Corps” with “Shadow Circus”.

Not to be contrarian; the face-value read is almost certainly the correct one. But this still could be a misdirect: He’s not the mole, just resigned to the fact that the enemies will inevitably get ahold of this tech and morbidly fascinated by what they’ll do with it.
