“Maybe you need to have some kind of self-discovery arc where you discover The Power Was Within Yourself All Along. Then you can punch mountains! From SPACE!”
“Dean, are you OK?”
Nothing wrong with wanting to be exceptional, of course. But, by definition, not everybody can be; to regard not meeting that aspiration as a personal failure will only hurt oneself for circumstances outside of one’s control. Better to work for it to the best of one’s ability and, if that doesn’t go as far as one hoped, to make peace with that fact.
I love that the other students are now dealing with variations on the same question- “How do I cope with not being the main character?” They aren’t as capable, as exceptional, or as needed as they thought they would be. This is a super cool character growth moment for all of them, and especially cool for side characters that usually wouldn’t get this much depth. Any of them could be the protagonist if the story was different.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be exceptional, but if that’s all you have as a goal you’ll regret it. And it looks like he’s regretting it. Get a hobby, find yourself, and then help others.

Oh no, I’ve caught up…!
Noooooooooooooooo…!
Welp, hi all, just found the comic the days ago and I’m in love!
I don’t even really live any of the main motifs (clowns, superheroes, academy stories) but it’s just So. Well. Made. And so much FUN…
(also those moments of drama and humanity…)
Chef’s kiss and 6 clown noses out of five.
He is great!
Even though the world-weary brooding detective is such a cliche, he does it extremely well – he has also a very strong Vimes (Discwordl) vibe to him, which is always excellent.
“Have you tried training with weighted gloves so you can punch harder?” “Yes.” “That’s all I had.”

I felt that one.
We all felt that.
ain’t nothing wrong with wanting to be exceptional. the problem is coming down on yourself when you aren’t
being exceptional is overrated. you do twice as well to get half the recognition.
There’s been one of those red clown noses by our front door for years. Odd that no one uses it.
MY BOY! OLLIE 😀

“What’s wrong with wanting to be exceptional?” OOF! Ouch, felt that one
oh god BOUT’S A FORMER GIFTED KID
Bout is currently studying at an elite crime fighting academy. He is very much still gifted.
and surrounded by other exceptional, gifted people. which is, in this case, a problem (for him).

It’s great. My favourite character is binky. Most awesome guy ever.

Ollie and Bout should kiss.
