I have some very real questions about the structural integrity of Pinfall architecture. Some Pinfall contruction company as been cutting corners and resulting and warehouses easily destroyed in high impact, super clown fights! Why is no one talking about this?!
I really like this scene because it’s sweet in a very odd way. It really seems like just two sisters catching up and bantering. Makes me really wonder where this is all going though. What’s Maggie doing it for? Being ‘evil’? Is she really just out for revenge on her sister? It doesn’t really *feel* like that’s what’s going on but I’m not gonna pretend like I can predict Maggie. I don’t imagine this can be resolved just here because otherwise what are the other cast members supposed to do for the rest of the comic? But it would be really, really heartbreaking for Mustard to die here. I really hope that’s not where this is going even though narratively, it seems that she’s gonna need to be, at the very least, hospitalized. Or maybe I’m way off base! Looking forward to finding out.
There’s definitely something more going on. Especially with this dual storylines being told and basically all the influential people of Pinfall gathered in one spot. I’m sure Echo is personally invested in battling Mustard but I also think that’s a distraction of sorts. She said she sent her men home but who knows if that’s true. Echo also seems to have complete control of Fuchsia’s teleport tech so there are some threads here that could lead to some grander scheme.
Maggie definitely has some larger plan in mind, but I don’t think the auction is part of it. She’s been waiting for her “chief scientist” to finish work on something (see Chapter 6, page 77), but she didn’t act like there was any kind of hard deadline on when that needed to be done.
Honestly, it’s possible that we’re never going to see the auction house interior again. Maybe we’ll cut back to a visibly-singed Bout sprinting away from the building with the Mayor tucked under one arm.
I don’t know if the party is relevant at all but I do think the teleportation tech has some role to play. Mainly because the start of this chapter spent time establishing the discovery to begin with. We even see Fuchsia using it in battle to know it works in the field. In that page you mentioned Echo says her science chief is nearly done wrapping up the final piece. Then Echo is almost immediately shown appropriating that tech in this fight. I know Mustard is tough but Echo doesn’t need cutting edge teleportation tech to hold her own in a sister’s only 1v1.
I could be wrong. This is just guessing, Im just not sure what the end goal is to need the teleportation for?
I feel like you’re not wrong that the teleportation technology is probably going to come back up (if only to let Fuchsia get her clown gear on in a magical girl transformation), but Echo doesn’t need her for it; the thing that got the Corps scientists so focused on making it work was that Echo could already teleport bigger things than the Corps technology could manage.
The “chief scientist working on the last piece of the puzzle” was likely just a lie, they are a small organization after all. However, detective Soto did mention getting herself into a precarious situation and the town being in bigger trouble than they thought, so maybe that’s what she’s really up to. Also there being a scientist working on a final piece might turn out to be true, her former boss that she usurped most likely charmed some actual scientists.
I’m almost certain that Maggie’s up to something more. She started off the chapter dismissing the Clown Corps, which was (as far as we know) Gus’ whole motivation; she made the dig about Mustard being “just some clown,” which was definitely calculated to be hurtful but I don’t think is entirely untrue (“cruel but not wrong” seems to be her MO here), at least to the point that she has some greater ambition here.
No real idea or speculation on what it might be, just that I’m pretty sure “who’s the mole” and “what’s the real plan” are a waiting pair of big revelations to come.
Yay, personal growth! Well, for one of them, anyway. I love panel 4 in particular.
Will Morgan even continue the fight? She’s been getting the worst of it, she’s openly questioning her entire “vigilante” strategy, and Maggie clearly isn’t going to give in unless she’s completely incapacitated. Perhaps a tactical retreat is in order. Or she could go the other direction and finally call in Binky for reinforcement.
Just to clarify the ambiguous pronoun: Maggie clearly isn’t going to give in unless Morgan completely incapacitates her. (It would be odd if Maggie gave in after incapacitating Morgan.)
1. Once again, Dark Mustard has to dump confetti out of her catsuit. (Ch6p71)
2. I think Morgan’s “I spent a decade…” is the most explicit statement we’ve gotten so far on how long it’s been since Maggie’s “death”. I think that was our collective rough estimate already, but it’s nice to have confirmation.
3. Morgan’s remarks in panels 5 and 6 remind me of that quote from Skyrim where the dragon Paarthurnax talks about his internal struggle. “What is better – to be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?”
At least mustard tried to apologize for her past behavior. Sometimes our memories tend to mess with us and make us believe what we want to believe is true.
Why did I just see a death flag go up? wait wait wait, if McBell is the main character, and Mustard is the mentor figure… are we gonna have a Disney on our hands?
I’m not the only person seeing the :0) in the img text and going “isnt a clown nose smiley supposed to be :o)” right. im not the only one right. please tell me im not the only one
awwww, that’s sweet!
(and don’t listen to Echo, Joe, I thought the callback was plenty funny for this kind of moment.)

clowns are strong ok
she did say the bomb was modified
Shoudn’t the question be: Where did all this rubble and concrete come from, when te roof obviously is made of sheet metal?

not to mention the spy we still in the Corp is almost guaranteed to be in their science department

Can Maggie bring Mustard to the Dark Side (TM)?
This arc is really doing the most to try and unseat McBell and install Echo as my favorite character. Look at her I love her she sucks so bad 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

I had three more random thoughts:

I am expecting a wistful “Oh, how I’ve missed you” moment before the fighting begins anew.
At least mustard tried to apologize for her past behavior. Sometimes our memories tend to mess with us and make us believe what we want to believe is true.
Maggie doesn’t care about giving Morgan time to recover. She just wants the fight scene to look lame. Mm-hm.
That was surprisingly wholesome
because i knew you, i have been changed for good
Why did I just see a death flag go up? wait wait wait, if McBell is the main character, and Mustard is the mentor figure… are we gonna have a Disney on our hands?
I feel this is about to turn into a hellacious smackdown as Mustard stops trying to be “good” and fights to win.

Well i wasn’t one, didn’t notice it at first, but thanks to your OCD and sharp eye, you got one more in your team of “wait that nose is WAY too big”
