I love the use of the silent first panel to indicate time passing rather than have dad rehash information on the page that as a reader I already know. And then going right to the son’s reaction. That’s some good comics stuff right there.
Started binging the comic for the first time yesterday and caught up today…damn, though, Binky. Just cause it’s true doesn’t mean that it’s right. That’s your kid, man- you should be less upset that he wants to believe it’s legit and more upset at the jerk manipulating him.
Also, happy belated birthday Fuchsia! Congrats on the teleportation and may someone smack Rita in the face as she deserves.
This is a very Dad moment, Binky would probably unironically say he fully supports his son, proud of him, etc but that’s one of those cutting remarks a dad can just casually drop that can stay with you for decades.
Ooof. Billy is factually correct in what he is saying but MAN he needs to learn how to communicate constructively. He ended up basically explaining nothing and insulting David 🙁 Way to ensure your kid doubles down instead of heeding the warning.
David doesn’t even properly know why Billy quit by the end. I’m sure it’s fine and they’ll sort it out on the next page 🙃
(Art-note: I love how expressive David’s face and body is across all these panels! Great use of visual character acting. Very realistic writing of a bad miscommunication to – those can be surprisingly hard to do well and this one makes perfect sense in character!)
The absolute truth, directly stated, is not always going to get the right results. Especially when paired with a command. Though I suspect Binky isn’t the type to learn that lesson quickly.
You might be saying the right thing, Binky. But you aren’t saying it the right way.
Classic Binky! You can take off the clown paint, but you can’t take off the clown-at-relationships.
Grow up? Peter Pan would be pissed.
Right in the insecurities.
Yikes, Binky 😬
I mean, he’s right, but that ain’t no way of saying so.
Oh buddy buddy buddy buddy buddy. Oh no. “You’re incompetent and nobody would hire you” is NOT the angle to push here my guy.
That’s true, but hey
Well, Strongmad, what happens next is entirely on you.
Excuse me Barry was a real threat, particularly without his barrel.
And I’m not talking just about his jorts

Good observation. I didn’t even notice. That’s a clever use for a silent panel.

Binky sure is great with youths.
Wow, is that ever the wrong tactic to take. Firing straight for the opposite reaction.

This is gonna fuck up your kid’s headspace… Way to Dad there Binky…

Hoo-boy, you might have stopped being Binky, but you didn’t stop being bad at peopling. And you parent as badly as you people.
Binky, in the future, when I run into someone who is legit confused by the line “Just because you are right does not mean you are correct”?
I am going to point to this conversation as an example.

Man. This dudes trash at parenting and communication.
I don’t think he could’ve picked better words to convince him not to quit and take the assignment if he tried.
