Clown Break
In case you missed the public patreon post about it, Clown Corps is going on an extended hiatus. This is partly so I can prep for the big final chapter, and partly so I can focus on some other projects for a bit.
I’ve got a very ambitious list of comic books I want to make someday, and I’ve got a pretty good idea which ones I want to work on during the upcoming months. I figured I’d do a quick run-down to keep y’all in the loop.
First up: a follow-up to my 2023 comic, The Pride of Pumpkin Boy. It’s a brand new action-packed adventure in which Katie has a birthday party, Jed hangs out with his grandma, and Ivy gets pissed off.

I’d also love to make one or two of those wacky fan comics I’m known for. I haven’t decided which subjects to focus on yet, but my top contenders are Phineas and Ferb, King of the Hill, Frasier again, Elden Ring, and of course, my man Shrek.

So, I’ve been threatening to make a comic series about magicians for years, right? Well I want to do an itty bitty one-shot to demonstrate what that might look like. I’m not too far along with this one, but if I can at least finish a script and some character designs, I’ll be happy.

And finally, a project that’s become very important to me: an earnest retelling of Cinderella. You’re just gonna have to trust me on this one. My notes document for this comic contains some of the best shit I’ve ever written. It’s pushing graphic novel length, so it definitely won’t be finished before the clowns are back, but I want to start making a little progress.

So when will the clowns be back? It’s too early to be picking dates, but I’m determined to return to clown town before 2026 is over. Not saying I’ll intentionally wait until next December, I’m just giving myself some breathing room because a.) my mental health sometimes takes big greedy bites outta my time on this earth, and b.) comics always seem easier to make when you’re still just daydreaming about them.
Concept art and progress updates for the comics mentioned above, and eventually the comics themselves, will appear on my patreon before anyplace else. If you aren’t into patreon but still want to support my efforts/dreams/madness, I’ve also got a ko-fi.

Thank you so much to everyone who’s ever taken a chance on my dopey little comic books. It means everything to me. Now, time for this clown to get to work!

I love Clown Corps and am going to miss it while it’s gone, but I am so excited for all of these projects
On one hand, I’m sad to hear that we’re winding down, but on the other hand, this set of projects pending looks good to me. On the gripping hand, based on this chapter, I imagine we’re still several years away from the curtain call.
Magicians!! 🤩 That sounds cool as hell.
Uh oh, a whole year at least? We’re internet people, we don’t have long term memory anymore?
Who are you again? What is this website? This doesn’t look like reddit? I’m afraid!
Oh, i just keep this on my browser landing\main page, so by 2026 i’ll have entirely forgotten about it, but the icon will be there to remind me.
Can’t rely on my memory but i sure as hell can rely on that!
I’m subscribed to the RSS feed, so I’ll get an automatic notification whenever the comic returns. I recommend it for everyone! Just add “https://clowncorps.net/feed/” to your favorite RSS reader app or plugin (there’s a jillion of them).
And I just found out that Bluesky accounts have built-in RSS feeds. So if you want to get automatic updates on his non-clown work, it’s “https://bsky.app/profile/joechoui.bsky.social/rss”.
That’s what RSS feeds are for!

These all look great!! I can’t wait to see any of them! (Especially the possible Frasier comic)
Love the idea of the Cinderella retelling; I think you’d do amazing at it.
Uh oh, the narrator is taking time to plot.
Though yeah. This last chapter was a masterpiece. Well worthy of a break.
>earnest cinderella retelling
I Am Seated.
super excited for the other stuff too but i LOVE when people take earnest cracks at classic fairy tales…what they emphasize and elaborate on always reveals so much abt the author’s heart. it’ll be a long time coming but i’m so excited to see it whenever you do get it shareable!!!
also super excited for pumpkin boy followup 😀 i hope whatever you end up doing first you have so much fun!!!
If I had a nickel for every time a webcomic author I follow did a Cinderella retelling, I’d have two nickels – which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
It’s a shame I’ll have to go without a clown fix after just getting hooked on it, but all these other projects sound exciting as well. And a tentative date for when Clown Corps will return helps soften the blow too.
Who’s the other author?
Dan Shive, from El Goonish Shive.
The mentioned Cinderella side story starts here: https://www.egscomics.com/egsnp/cinder-004
As long as I get a printed graphic novel someday, I’m good.
Thanks for all your hard work so far, and looking forward to the new stuff! The monster-fightin’ teens have a fun dynamic.
So excited for everything you have in store. Obviously Clown Corps will be broiling in the back of my mind until it returns, but the sneak peaks of everything else are incredible. The pumpkin boy comic is a personal favorite of mine in your pantheon and I am SEATED for a sequel. Not only that, but Cinderella is my favorite fairy tale and they would have to drag me away by the toenails to keep me from reading a comic retelling.
Best of luck, mister comic man!
_Any one of the above_ crossing over with Columbo would make my day.
this is one of my favorite comics ever. just finished a reread and it hits, man. thank you for all your work so far!
Just binged the entire comic, had a VERY good time. Enjoy your break, I’ll be excited for the return when it gets here!
I just read all of this today and omg this is a amazing comic. I love the art and colors, can’t wait to read more!!!
