You know, for a moment, I thought that ‘hey’ on the last page was going to turn out to be a clown whose kindness in obtaining the Sticky Bun inspired Mcbell to become a clown, and that it would turn out to be some kind of Forgotten First Meeting with a young Binky or Mustard that would become dramatical irony only revealed to the characters later.

…Which, I mean, this still might turn out to be in the opposite direction if that is the police chief, but I wouldn’t count on it. Unless Mcbell turns out to have gotten irrationally fixated on it and later takes off her nose and clown makeup in front of the police chief and goes “hello. My name is Mary Mcbell. You denied me my Sticky Bun. Prepare to di- errr, get slightly embarrassed in front of your kid.”
