I dunno. I’ve honestly found that the singular “they” is actually immensely helpful in my own writing. Sounds way more natural than “he/she” ever has, anyway.

Yeah, that’s pretty standard. Try not to take it too personal; purity tests are the American Left’s second favorite thing ever. It’s practically a reflex for some people. I find the real trick is learning to put my own ego aside and seeing if they actually have a point buried in there somewhere. It happens more often than you might think.
