It’s a pattern of pressure to only feel, express, or display positive emotions in all circumstances.

On an individual level, it can lead to people feeling disconnected and emotionally isolated by being unable to process or express negative feelings. More institutionally, it can be a way of blocking critique and caution by casting the expression of reasonable issues with an organization or undertaking as negativity. And in a sort of combination, it can be expressed in a sort of victim-blaming, by declaring that anyone complaining of problems or struggles is causing the problems themselves with a negative attitude.

I’m fairly certain there was another name for what you explained there, but folks in my usual groups are almost completely the sharp yet blunt types, and english isn’t even my main, so whatever that word was, it has completely escaped my mind a long time ago.

And yeah i wrote all this in attempt to remember, but pretty much all of my plans in life have a solid 50% chance to fail.

It’s not allowing the expression of negative emotions like sadness, disappointment or anger, for example.

The problem is that both positive and negative emotions have a purpose and there are healthy ways to express and process them, but toxic positivity demands that you pretend everything is fine forever, no matter the situation, which isn’t healthy.

No, it’s real. Positive re-enforcement of negative behaviors or delusion, often in a group, say, a cult, or MLM group, to ward off criticism or obvious oncoming disaster. Usually by being perfectly nice and positive.
