Hilariously implies that he was super relaxed about fighting McBell. Also, the implication that he didn’t develop his routine on purpose? Sleep-fighting is just something he does and joined law enforcement to control? XD
Am I the only one that finds it weird that all these kids came to school with routines already created? Seems like the sort of thing that you come up with and workshop and perfect in clown school, not beforehand. Seems like there should be a lot more McBells on that front. And speaking of McBell, she wanted to be a clown for a long time, yet she never came up with a persona or routine? Not even a clown name? I’d say maybe she just outgrew her clown phase, like not all little kids that play cops and robbers grow up to be police, but it seems like these kids are all 18+ and McBell’s the late-blooming 20-something, so her application must have been fairly recent. Then again, she was rejected based on her essay, so maybe the fact that she didn’t have a persona already was what sabotaged her. Seems like the sort of thing a serious applicant would have researched ahead of time though.
Wild theory time: the Shadow Circus runs a camp for kids who want to be clowns when they grow up, as a way of screening and training recruits. That’s where all these jokers came from. McBell attended the camp and was really good, but dropped off the map when her application to the college was rejected, which bummed the Circus people out because that would have made her perfect for anti-clown radicalization. They tracked her down when Platt started getting robbed, possibly even leaned on him to call in the clowns to make sure she was captured. Then…kaBOOM. Either she was supposed to escape and get recruited, or die before she could tell the clowns about the camp. Not sure how Oats fits into this, as I’m 90% sure that she’s the mole in the department. But given how ruthless the Circus is, maybe she was acceptable collateral damage. Or even the target herself! /end theory
Realistically, most applicants wouldn’t have routines at this point. But they have that whole horrible entrance exam that probably weeds out anyone who isn’t precocious enough to already have a routine.
