Since Dean Squeaky is an authority figure, McBell feels no desire to impress him, which is why she can open up to him in a way she couldn't with Bout. This has been another episode of Joe Explains His Own Comic

It occurs to me, legal back-and-forth can take years to finish. Just because the judge ordered McBell to give the money back doesn’t mean she did it right away, especially while distracted by other things (getting out of jail, entering the Academy.) And now that he’s dead, his heirs will probably be fighting over the bulk of his fortune and might not notice the few million in McBell’s possession, especially with estate lawyers and other legal fees that surround death (particularly the death of the wealthy.)

    Just throwing that out there.

So, McBell’s lack of respect for authority figures lets her open up to authority figures allowing them to be more effective authority figures towards her? HHEr rebellious streak is rebelling against HER.
