Dangit boss, he had a good “cynical old mentor slowly becomes father figure to idealistic rookie” gig all set up, now you’re throwing a wrench in it. Do you know how long it took him to perfect his gruff-yet-sincere voice? How many times he practiced saying “good job, kid” in the mirror, waiting for that one perfect moment to break it out? All that work down the drain, and what do you give him as consolation?
